The successful launch of the Dispute Mediations Consultancy on the Isle of Wight has given those living in Hampshire and on the Island greater opportunities to resolve disputes at far less cost than has been traditionally achieved through the Courts. Greater use of Alternative Dispute Resolution techniques such as Mediation, as recommended by LJ Jackson's report on the cost of litigation, is now more likely following the DMC led seminar due to a better understanding between the legal and survey professions.

A comprehensive report by Nabarro LLP, 39 Essex Street and ADR Group titled 'The effective use of mediation by Local Authorities in Judicial Review' gives a review of the mediation process and discusses survey replies from Local Authorities when considering the use of mediation in public law cases. In particular conclusions are drawn that better cost savings could be achieved by Local Authorities if mediation was more widely used.
