The Dispute Mediation Consultancy based at the Innovation Centre on the Isle of Wight has been appointed to the UK National Mediation Helpline for the Isle of Wight & Hampshire. This new service aims to provide Civil Mediation Council accredited mediation to Island residents as an alternative to high cost Court based dispute litigation.

An affiliation of RICS Chartered Surveyors and mediators form the partnership which is an accredited provider by the Civil Mediation Council. As Chartered Surveyors, DMC are able to provide expert advice on a range of land & property related disputes. All Mediators are fully qualified professionals and are highly knowledgeable in their various fields of practice.

Where there is a need for a specialist survey advice, such as from a land surveyor, the legal profession and public will now have an affordable and reliable local service provider without the need to leave island.

Mediation provides for alternative solutions that can not be considered by Court judgements and in all cases the participants in dispute gain from the process by being actively involved in any settlement agreement.

Solutions can be found quickly and those in business do not find themselves embroiled in years of stressful litigation with the consequential increase in legal costs and the high unknown risk of either winning or losing.

The provision of Mediators will be managed by the Dispute Mediation Consultancy (DMC) who manage a pool of RICS Accredited expert mediators and arbitrators to represent a wide cross-section of skills knowledge and experience.

Accredited Mediators are required to demonstrate they are leaders in their field and are members of a recognised professional body (e.g. RICS, RTPI, CIArb, ISVA, IHBC, ICE).

Grant Vincent, Principal Member of the Dispute Mediation Consultancy says:

"The opening of the partnership based here on the Isle of Wight is a great way to start Summer 2010. This service will be a welcome benefit to those involved in a dispute by adding a valuable local resource which will assist in speeding up the dispute process whilst keeping costs under control.

The initiative supports the judiciary who wish to see dispute matters solved by the parties in dispute, outside of the Court process. Mediation is able to provide innovative solutions through a forum facilitated by a highly trained and technically aware mediator. Here, the parties in dispute, proactively participate in finding a long term solution to their problem. Its been proven that 70-80% of Parties are able to resolve disputes quickly, with less stress and therefore at significantly less cost, in money and time, than if the dispute had proceeded to Court."

Notes for editors:
LJ Sir Rupert Jackson - Court of Appeal, report Jan 2010 regarding civil litigation costs, recommends a serious campaign to heighten awareness of ADR techniques such as mediation in the legal, public and small businesses arenas.
