Community & Neighbourhood

DMC has a range of options for its Community & Neighbourhood clients.

Local Community pro-bono mediation facility

DMC is keen to serve the local community and charities and will willingly offer help and guidance to local community organisations and charities on a pro-bono basis.

Neighbour disputes

Neighbours fall out over a wide range of issues from noisy animals, inconsiderate behaviour and building extension plans through to position of fences and trees for boundary demarcation.

DMC offers a range of alternative dispute resolution solutions and can supply either a neutral independent expert land surveyor or  RICS accredited mediator. Disputes frequently require an independent facilitator to help resolve dispute issues which are likely to have been the cause of unnecessary stress.

Considerations: Mediation v litigation

It is especially important for parties to try to work together in disputes involving neighbours in order to minimise long term damage to the neighbour relationship. Following any litigation the potential for on-going acrimony between neighbours is substantial and the judgement will probably impact both of the parties' lives forever; unless of course one of them decides to move!

Mediation offers

  • low cost solution with the advantage that should the dispute go to Court future award of costs will be protected;
  • time constrained (which also reduces costs);
  • flexibility of outcome - with the possibility of an apology or other form of settlement that may not necessarily be financial;
  • you remain in control - being personally involved in both negotiations and settlement.
